CAMPAIGN BULLETIN QUALITY ACTION Accelerator Pedal Inspection Reference: PM666 Date: February 1, 2017 Attention: Dealer Principal, Sales, Service & Parts Managers Affected Models/Years: MY2017 Sentra (B17) Affected Population: Dealer Inventory: SERVICE COMM Activation date: Stop Sale In Effect NA 4,042 February 1, 2017 NO ***** Detailed Information ***** On January 31, 2017, Nissan announced a Quality Assurance Hold certain MY2017 Sentra (B17) vehicles. These vehicles are either currently in dealer inventory or assigned and in transit to the dealer. An inspection procedure is now available. Nissan is requesting that dealers inspect the accelerator pedal part lot number on all affected inventory and, if necessary, remedy affected inventory using the procedure included with this announcement. The quality hold can be released once the vehicle inspection and, if necessary, repair has been completed. ***** What Dealers Should Do ***** 1. Verify if vehicles currently in dealer inventory are affected by this inventory service action using Service Comm I.D. PM666. New vehicles in dealer inventory can be also be identified using DCS (Sales-> Vehicle Inventory, and filter by Open Campaign). Refer to NPSB 15-460 for additional information 2. Use the attached procedure to inspect the part lot number, and if matched, replace the subject part. If part replacement is not needed, dealers may submit the inspection claim, and release the vehicle for sale with no further action. If part replacement is needed, dealers will need to order parts using an SVC order in DCS. Once the vehicle has been repaired, submit the claim, using the claims coding provided in the repair procedure, and release the vehicle. Do not submit the claim until parts have been received and the vehicle has been remedied. Parts replaced under this campaign activity may be collected. Follow the attached inspection procedure prior to determining the necessity of replacing any parts. NOTE: Dealers should continue to check new arriving inventory for applicability. 3. Dealers are requested to inspect and, if necessary, remedy any affected vehicle in dealer new or pre-owned inventory prior to sale to ensure customer satisfaction. NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC. Aftersales DIVISION PM666 | Original Document PM666 – SENTRA (B17) ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY INSPECTION SERVICE PROCEDURE: 1. Verify the VIN of the affected Sentra, open driver’s door and place seat in full retracted position. (Figure 1). Figure 1 2. Locate the two 10mm bolts on the brake pedal bracket. (Figure 2). Note: DO NOT remove the harness connector from the accelerator pedal assembly. Figure 2 3. Remove the two 10mm bolts (Figure 3). Note: DO NOT remove the harness connector from the accelerator pedal assembly. Locating Hook 10mm Bolt Locating Pin 10mm Bolt Figure 3 4. Once the bolts are removed, carefully pull accelerator pedal assembly locating pin out and locating hook down to remove from brake pedal bracket and allow to hang (Figure 3, 4). Note: DO NOT remove the harness connector from the accelerator pedal assembly. Caution: Do not disassemble accelerator pedal assembly. Do not remove accelerator pedal position sensor from accelerator pedal assembly. Do not drop or impact the accelerator pedal assembly. Do not expose the accelerator pedal assembly to water. Figure 4 5. Carefully turn accelerator pedal assembly to locate Lot and Part Number on upper right side of the accelerator pedal assembly (Figure 5). Figure 5 6. Locate the Lot Number in Figure 6 and write the number down below. Re-verify number once written below. Lot Number: _________________________ Pedal Assembly Lot Number Figure 6 7. Does the Sentra accelerator pedal assembly Lot Number written above match one of the Lot Numbers below in Figure 7? 36516A 00417A Figure 7 If NO, then proceed to step 8, Reinstall Accelerator Pedal. If YES, then proceed to step 12, Replace Sentra Accelerator Pedal. Important: The vehicle MUST be held until the accelerator pedal assembly is replaced with the new part. 8. Install accelerator pedal assembly by inserting locating hook and pin into the brake pedal bracket aligning bolt holes (Figure 8). Locating Hook Install Bolt Here Locating Pin Install two 10mm bolts. Caution: Do not squeeze the locating hook into the brake pedal bracket when inserting the locating pin into the hole on the brake pedal bracket side. Install Bolt Here Figure 8 9. Using a torque wrench, tighten the two 10mm bolts until the required torque is reached (Figure 9). Torque two 10mm bolts to 5.1N-m (45in-lbs). Caution: Be careful not to over torque bolts or you could strip out the accelerator pedal assembly. 10. Inspection is complete, submit warranty claim for Inspect Sentra Accelerator Pedal. Figure 9 11. Release the Vehicle. REPLACE SENTRA ACCELERATOR PEDAL Important: Ensure ignition is off. 12. Disconnect the harness connector from the accelerator pedal assembly (Figure 10). Caution: Do not disassemble accelerator pedal assembly. Do not remove accelerator pedal position sensor from accelerator pedal assembly. Do not drop or impact the accelerator pedal assembly. Do not expose the accelerator pedal assembly to water. 13. Install new accelerator pedal assembly P/N 18002-3RA0A by inserting locator hook and pin into the brake pedal bracket aligning bolt holes Figure 11. Install two 10mm bolts. Connect harness connector to accelerator pedal assembly, listen for audible click to ensure full connection. Figure 10 Locating Hook Install Bolt Here Locating Pin Install Bolt Here Figure 11 14. Using a torque wrench, tighten the two 10mm bolts until the required torque is reached (Figure 12). Torque two 10mm bolts to 5.1N-m (45in-lbs). Caution: Be careful not to over torque bolts or you could strip out the accelerator pedal assembly. Figure 12 15. Perform Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning procedure in Figure 13.
