Service Technical Information 53/12 ENU WC41 6 WC41 - Replacing Tension Ropes for Tension Bow (Workshop Campaign) Vehicle Type: 911 Carrera Cabriolet (991)/911 Carrera S Cabriolet (991) Model Year: As of 2012 up to 2013 Concerns: Tension ropes for tension bow Information: This is to inform you of a voluntary Workshop Campaign on the above-mentioned vehicles. Due to a supplier’s manufacturing problem, the tension ropes for the convertible-top tension bow do not meet the required specifications and can tear. If a tension rope is torn, the correct tensioning of the convertible top covering can no longer be guaranteed. Action Required: Replace both tension ropes for the tension bow. Affected Vehicles: The VIN(s) can be checked by using PIWIS Vehicle Information link to verify if the campaign affects the vehicle. This Campaign is scope specific to the VIN! Failure to verify in PIWIS may result in an improper repair. This workshop campaign affects 1711 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada. Attachment "A": Work Procedure Information The procedure described here must be carried out on both tension ropes for the tension bow. The figures show the work to be carried out on the left side of the vehicle in direction of travel. Service Technical Information 2.3 53/12 ENU Measure the old tension rope ⇒ Figure 2 -1- using a ruler ⇒ Figure 2 - Measurement X- and then adjust the new tension rope ⇒ Figure 2 -2-, Part No.: 000.043.207.98, to the same length. 2.5 Fit tension rope ⇒ Figure 3 -1- with the ball socket at the top of the tension bow ⇒ Figure 3 -2- (⇒ Figure 3 -Arrow-). 1 X 2 3 3 2 4 Secure the convertible top rooflining joint ⇒ Figure 3 -4- on the lower ball joint of the tension rope ⇒ Figure 3 -1- using a tie-wrap ⇒ Figure 3 -3-. Cut off the extra length at the end of the tie-wrap using side cutters. 1 3 Retrofit tension rope on the right side of the vehicle. To do this, complete Steps 2.1 to 2.6 on the right side of the vehicle. 4 4 Figure 2 To do this, guide the tie-wrap ⇒ Figure 3 -3- in through both holes on the convertible top rooflining joint ⇒ Figure 3 -4- and close it as shown. 2.6 6 X To do this, loosen the lock nut ⇒ Figure 2 -3- and unscrew the ball socket ⇒ Figure 2 -4- so that you can adjust the tension rope to the previously measured length ⇒ Figure 2 -(Measurement X)- (⇒ Figure 2 -(Tolerance +/- 0,5 mm)-). AfterSales Aug 22, 2012 Page 3 of 5 6 Service WC41 ENU 5 Technical Information 53/12 Once you have closed the convertible top, check the gap dimensions ⇒ Figure 4 -A, B- between the convertible top and convertible-top compartment lid and correct them if necessary by adjusting the tension ropes. Adjusting the tension ropes ensures that the tension bow creates the preload required for closing the convertible top covering without wrinkles.
