August 21, 2014 T-SB-0107-14 MIL "ON" DTC P219A and Compression Loss Into Exhaust Service Category Engine/Hybrid System Section Engine Mechanical Market USA Applicability YEAR(S) MODEL(S) 2012 – 2014 Corolla 2012 – 2013 Matrix ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Introduction Some 2012 – 2014 model year Corolla vehicles equipped with a 2ZR-FE engine (or 2014 model year 2ZR-FAE) and some 2012 – 2013 model year Matrix vehicles equipped with a 2ZR-FE engine may exhibit a MIL “ON” with DTC P219A (Bank 1 Air-Fuel Ratio Imbalance) present. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to improve this condition. NOTE 2014 model year Corolla vehicles now include cylinder specific Air Fuel Ratio Imbalance DTCs P219C – P219F. Production Change Information This bulletin applies to: • All 2012 – 2013 Matrix vehicles equipped with a 2ZR-FE engine. • 2012 – 2014 Corolla vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs. TOOLS & MATERIAL QUANTITY SLLC Coolant 1 FIPG 1 Cylinder Leak Down Tester 1 Repair Procedure 1. Use Techstream to check for DTCs and confirm the condition is present as described in the Introduction. Are misfire DTCs (P030#) present along with DTC P219A? • YES — This bulletin does NOT apply. Diagnose the misfire DTCs using the applicable Repair Manual. • NO — Continue to step 2. 2. Perform cylinder leakdown test on each cylinder. Note any cylinders with high compression loss percentage. If compression loss is found during the test, listen at the exhaust, intake and crankcase to determine the source of the leakage. Was compression loss into the exhaust system found? • YES — Continue to step 3. • NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Replace the Cylinder Head, all Exhaust Valves and Intake Valves for the affected cylinder.
