The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern
Vehicle concern of running hot with a snowplow installed.
Customer inquiring about installing a snow plow.
Recommendation/Instructions
The only Light duty vehicle built with the snowplow prep package is a regular cab pickup with RPO VYU.
VYU - SNOW PLOW PREP PACKAGE: * GENERATOR 170 AMP * PROVISIONS-ROOF MOUNTED LAMP * HIGH CAPACITY AIR CLEANER *
UNDERBODY SHIELD, TRANS CASE * HEAVY DUTY FRONT SPRINGS
Reference Si Document 2889834 Adding a Snow Plow or Similar Equipment.
Caution: Do not exceed 64 km/h (40 mph) with a snow plow mounted to the vehicle even if equipped with VYU. The vehicle could overheat and be damaged
Caution: If the vehicle does not have the snow plow prep package, adding a plow can damage the vehicle, and the repairs would not be covered by warranty.
Unless the vehicle was built to carry a snow plow, do not add one to the vehicle. If the vehicle has the snow plow prep package, called RPO VYU, then the
payload the vehicle can carry will be reduced when a snow plow is installed. The vehicle can be damaged if either the front or rear axle ratings or the Gross
Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) are exceeded.
It is not recommended to add a snowplow to any vehicle without RPO VYU
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the
remaining steps do not need to be performed.
GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may
occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools,
safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that
your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
