Bulletin No.: PIP5257 Date: Jan-2015 Subject: Cooling System Contaminated With Engine Oil Models: 2010-2015 Buick Enclave LaCrosse Allure 2010-2015 Cadillac CTS SRX 2013-2015 Cadillac ATS XTS 2010-2015 Chevrolet Camaro Equinox Traverse 2011-2015 Chevrolet Captiva Sport 2012-2015 Chevrolet Impala 2015 Chevrolet Colorado 2010-2015 GMC Acadia Terrain 2015 GMC Canyon Equipped with a HFV6 Engine The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI. Condition/Concern A vehicle may be brought in for oil in the cooling system, Oil in the coolant overflow reservoir, or overheat due to coolant blown out of coolant reservoir. You will normally find a very thick oil in coolant mix in the radiator and coolant overflow reservoir. This condition is caused by a leakage from the main oil gallery to a water jacket through block porosity or thin wall casting. The average oil pressure is near 60 psi and the coolant pressure is 16 psi. Recommendation/Instructions If you encounter a vehicle with this concern, First, if equipped, test the oil cooler system for possible leaking into the coolant through the radiator. If the oil cooler tests good, or the vehicle is not equipped with an oil cooler, then reference this PI and replace the engine as well as all rubber coolant hoses. Flush the radiator and heater core if possible or replace those as needed. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
