Introduction
This Special Instruction provides the necessary information in order to install the high-pressure fuel
pump on CT660 On Highway Truck.
Read the entire Special Instruction before order any parts or perform the following procedure. Do not
perform any procedure in this publication or order any parts until you understand the information that
is contained in this publication.
Do not operate or work on this machine unless you have read and
understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and
Maintenance Manuals. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the
warnings could result in injury or death. Contact your Cat dealer for
replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility.

Before service work is begun, park the machine on a hard level surface.
Block the wheels of the machine so unexpected movement will not
occur. Unexpected movement of the machine can cause personal injury
or death.
NOTICE
Remove the ground cable from the negative terminal of the battery box
before disconnecting any electrical components. Always connect the
ground cable last.
NOTICE
Always wear safe eye protection when performing vehicle
maintenance. Failure to do so may result in serious eye injury.

Rework Procedure
Perform the following procedures to remove and replace the HP fuel pump. Refer to the following
procedures in the Service Manual, UENR0990.
1. Bring truck into shop and park on a flat surface.
2. Shift transmission to Park or Neutral and set parking brake.
3. Install wheel chocks.
4. Remove left front fender assembly and bracket.
5. Remove air compressor coolant tubes. See Air Compressor Coolant Tubes removal procedure
in Air Compressor and Power Steering section. Refer to Service Manual, UENR0990.
6. Remove the air compressor. See Air Compressor removal procedure in Air Compressor and
Power Steering section.
7. Remove HP fuel pump. See High-Pressure Fuel Pump removal procedure in Fuel System
section. Refer to Service Manual, UENR0990.
8. Install new HP fuel pump. See High-Pressure Fuel Pump installation procedure in Fuel System
section. Refer to Service Manual, UENR0990.
Note: Clean and then apply Wacker® A-442 RTV sealant to joining faces of engine front cover
and HP fuel pump.

(1) Fuel primer pump
1. Pump fuel priming pump (1) a minimum of 250 times (approximately 3 minutes). Continue
pumping even after higher pumping force is required.
NOTICE
To prevent engine starter damage, if the engine fails to start after 20
seconds of cranking, stop cranking engine and wait 2 minutes to allow
the starter motor to cool. After each 20 seconds of cranking, wait an
additional 2 minutes before trying to start the engine again.
2. Start engine and check for fuel leaks. If engine does not start, prime again. Let engine run at
1,200 RPM for 2 minutes.
3. Verify that power steering reservoir is full.
a. Turn steering wheel to right until the steering wheel hits axle stop.
b. Turn steering wheel to the left until the steering wheel hits axle stop.
c. Refill power steering reservoir.
4. Install left front fender assembly and bracket.
5. Close and secure hood.
6. Remove wheel chocks.
