Product Affected
• All 2010 and later products equipped with aftertreatment NOx sensors.
Issue
Symptom:
• Fault Code 3545 and 1887
Root Cause
• Water and soap are entering the exhaust system when vehicles are washed,
contaminating the aftertreatment NOx sensor element or cracking the hot ceramic
element.
Resolution
• Extra care should be taken to prevent any water or soap from entering the exhaust
system.
◦ Water can act as a transport agent to redeposit foreign contaminants such as
road salt or corrosion onto aftertreatment NOx sensor element.

◦ Soaps and power washing fluid contain chemicals known to contaminate
aftertreatment NOx sensor element, possibly leading to aftertreatment NOx
sensor malfunction.
• Inspect aftertreatment SCR drain hole for any blockage. See corresponding Service
Manual. Reference Procedure 011-036 in Section 11.
