Bulletin No.: PI0825A Date: Oct-2012 Subject: Crackling/Static Type Noise Heard from Door Speakers and/or A-Pillar Tweeters Models: 2010-2012 Chevrolet Equinox 2010-2012 GMC Terrain Equipped with Radio RPOs UW6, VQN, UZ8 Built Prior to February 13, 2012 This PI is being revised to add additional information under Recommendation/Instructions. Please discard PI0825. Condition/Concern Some customers may comment on a crackling/static type noise coming from one or both door speakers and/or A-pillar tweeters. The condition may occur intermittently while driving and/or stop while the vehicle is not in motion. This condition may be caused by poor retention at the amplifier X2 connector. Recommendation/Instructions A new connector that provides better retention is available. Replace the amplifier X2 connector and all terminals. All terminals will be replaced using terminated leads. When replacing, stagger the lengths of the terminated leads to reduce the bundle size and wrap with electrical tape. The length for pins 13 through 16 should not be longer than 80♦mm (3.14♦in). Tip: Wiggling the X2 connector, while the audio is on, may induce the condition. They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information. 1 WE SUPPORT VOLUNTARY TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION 2
