Service Technical Information 71/12 ENU WC49 9 WC49 - Replacing Analog Clock With Sport Chrono Clock (Pre-Delivery Campaign) Note: CRITICAL WARNING - THIS CAMPAIGN INCLUDES STEPS WHERE SEVERAL CONTROL UNITS IN THE VEHICLE WILL BE PROGRAMMED WITH THE PIWIS TESTER. IT IS CRITICAL THAT THE VEHICLE VOLTAGE BE BETWEEN 13.5 VOLTS AND 14.5 VOLTS DURING THIS PROGRAMMING. OTHERWISE, THE PROGRAMMING COULD FAIL RESULTING IN DAMAGED CONTROL UNITS. CONTROL UNITS DAMAGED BY INADEQUATE VOLTAGE WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE TECHNICIAN MUST VERIFY THE ACTUAL VEHICLE VOLTAGE IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OR IN THE PIWIS TESTER BEFORE STARTING THE CAMPAIGN. IT IS ALSO ADVISABLE TO MONITOR THE VEHICLE VOLTAGE DURING THE PROGRAMMING VIA THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. PLEASE REFER TO EQUIPMENT INFORMATION EQ-1105 FOR A LIST OF SUITABLE BATTERY CHARGERS/POWER SUPPLIES WHICH SHOULD BE USED TO MAINTAIN VEHICLE VOLTAGE. Model Year: 2013 Revision: Revision 1 - October 18, 2012 - amends WC49 under "Affected Vehicles" to read: VEHICLES OUTSIDE THE SCOPE OF WC49, AND IN RESPONSE TO CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS, SHOULD HAVE THE ANALOG CLOCK REPLACED WITH ANOTHER ANALOG CLOCK. Vehicle Type: FOR PRE-DELIVERY VEHICLES ONLY Cayenne (92A)/Cayenne Diesel (92A)/Cayenne S Hybrid (92A) Cayenne S (92A)/Cayenne Turbo (92A) PRE-DELIVERY VEHICLES ONLY - As this is a pre-delivery campaign only, the campaign for each vehicle will be closed automatically when a warranty start date is created in the system at time of sale, i.e., the VIN list will be updated automatically to eliminate sold vehicle VINs. Equipment: Analog clock on dashboard (I-no. QR3) Subject: Analog clock on dashboard. Information: Due to a software error in the analog clock, communication between the analog clock and the CAN network can be interrupted and the clock remains stopped on the affected vehicles. Furthermore, it may occur that the second hand becomes stuck due to poor tolerances of the hand shaft. Action Required: PRE–DELIVERY CAMPAIGN Before delivering vehicles to customers, replace the analog clock on the dashboard with a Sport Chrono clock. 2012© Porsche Cars North America, Inc. Refer to Equipment Information EQ-1200 and EQ-1105. Work Procedure: See Attachment “A”. Claim Submission: See Attachment “B”> Attachment "A" - Replacing analog clock with Sport Chrono clock Work Procedure: NOTE: VEHICLE VOLTAGE MUST REMAIN BETWEEN 13.5 AND 14.5 VOLTS DURING THE ENTIRE WORK PROCEDURE. 1 Remove analog clock previously installed in vehicle ⇒ Workshop Manual ’902119 Removing and installing compass - section on "Removing"’. 2 Install a Sport Chrono clock in place of previously installed analog clock, part number 000.043.208.03 ⇒ Workshop Manual ’902119 Removing and installing compass - section on "Installing"’. Teaching and coding Sport Chrono clock in the vehicle system NOTICE Coding will be aborted in the event of low voltage. • Increased current draw during diagnosis can cause a drop in voltage, which can result in one or more fault entries and the abnormal termination of the coding process. ⇒ Before commencing work, connect a suitable battery charger with a current rating of at least 40 A to the jump-start terminals in the engine compartment. Sep 25, 2012 Page 2 of 7 AfterSales 2012© Porsche Cars North America, Inc. Service Technical Information 71/12 ENU WC49 9 NOTICE Coding will be aborted if the Internet connection is unstable. • An unstable Internet connection can interrupt communication between PIWIS Tester II and the vehicle communication module (VCI). As a result, coding may be aborted. ⇒ During control unit coding, always connect PIWIS Tester II to the vehicle communication module (VCI) via the USB cable. Work Procedure: NOTE: VEHICLE VOLTAGE MUST REMAIN BETWEEN 13.5 AND 14.5 VOLTS DURING THE ENTIRE WORK PROCEDURE. 1 Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 40 A to the jump-start terminals in the engine compartment. 2 PIWIS Tester II must be connected to the vehicle communication module (VCI) via the USB cable. Then, connect the communication module to the vehicle and switch on the PIWIS Tester. Information The procedure described here is based on the PIWIS Tester II software version 11.000. The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence and in the event of a discrepancy, these are the instructions that must be followed. A discrepancy may arise with later software versions for example. 3 On the PIWIS Tester start screen, call up the ⇒ ’Diagnostics’ menu and select vehicle type ⇒ ’Cayenne’⇒ ’92A as of MY 2011’. The diagnostic application is then started and the control unit selection screen is populated. 4 Adapt vehicle data.
