Battery Disconnect Procedures Battery Disconnect Switch • If the vehicle is equipped with a battery disconnect switch, it is located near the battery box. Use the battery disconnect switch when performing any maintenance so the vehicle cannot be accidentally started. 1. Turn the battery disconnect switch (Figure A, Item 1) counterclockwise so the hole on the switch aligns with the hole in the bracket (Figure A, Item 2). 2. Install the safety lockout device ring (Figure B, Item 1) through the holes on the battery disconnect switch and the bracket. 3. Install a padlock (Figure B, Item 2) onto the safety lockout device ring, lock it, and put the key in your pocket. If more than one person is working on the vehicle, each person must install his or her own padlock. WARNING For trucks without a battery disconnect switch, to prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect battery cables (negative cable first) before proceeding. Disconnect negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. 2 3. Remove and discard the existing deflector and hardware from both sides (Figure 1). Figure 1 4. Attach the slings and overhead crane to the new refuse deflector weldment (PN 1572658). 5. Move the refuse deflector weldment (Figure 2) into position at the roof mounted CNG system and align the deflector weldment so that you can install bolts in the three diagonal bolt slots on either side of the vehicle. Figure 2 3 6. Install (3) bolts (PN 1243637) to attach the weldment to the vehicle windguard (Figure 3). Figure 3 7. Use a torque wrench to torque bolts to 33 ft.-lbs. 8. Repeat Steps 6 and 7 on the opposite side of the vehicle. 9. Install the correct bolts across the top of weldment cover piece. The number of bolts and specific holes used will be based on if the CNG system is McNeilus or Agility. Figure 4 (McNeilus) and Figure 5 (Agility) detail the specific holes for each system. • McNeilus CNG system = Bolts PN 0120023, quantity 5 • Agility CNG system = Bolts PN quantity 1243637, quantity 4 10. Use a torque wrench to torque each McNeilus bolt to 9 ft.-lbs. • Use a torque wrench to torque the Agility bolts to 23 ft.-lbs. McNeilus CNG System Figure 4 Agility CNG System Figure 5 4 11.
