What does the driver experience with this issue?
The “check engine light” might illuminate with DTC P0461 stored in the engine
control module. No engine-related problems are present, and the vehicle is safe
to drive.
Which vehicles are affected?
Model year 2014–2016 A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, and Q5 vehicles are affected.
What causes the “check engine light” to illuminate?
The “check engine light” may be illuminated due to a stored fault code that is
related to the fuel level sensor inside of the fuel tank. The fault code appears as a
result of an incorrect diagnostic procedure.
The fault code can be reset and the dealership can release the vehicle. It is
possible that the “check engine light” will illuminate again.
What can the driver do to avoid the possibility of the “check engine light”
illuminating for this issue?
Add fuel only when the ignition is off, as it has been determined that the issue is
caused if the vehicle is refueled when the ignition is on or engine is running.
The upcoming software solution will allow the vehicle to be refueled when the
ignition is on.
When will the final software solution be available?
The final software solution will be made available as soon as possible. Audi has
identified the cause of the software shortcoming and is working to develop the
solution. Due to the complexity of the fuel system, extensive testing must be
performed to ensure that the correction does not adversely affect other functions.
A final solution will be available late in the first quarter of 2016.
We sincerely apologize for the issue that you are experiencing with your Audi, and
we appreciate your willingness to work with us as we develop a positive solution.
