Field Service Bulletin Trucks Volvo Trucks North America Greensboro, NC USA Date This Field Service Bulletin replaces bulletin, “Climate Unit Noise Reduction”, (USA57776) PV729-FSB874-052_M, dated (5.2013). 2.2016 Group No. Release 874 052 02 Page 1(11) Climate Unit Noise Reduction VN, VHD, VT, VAH FSB 874-052, Climate Unit Noise Reduction (February 2016) To address customer concerns of a 'whistling' noise from the main climate unit when in recirculation mode, VOLVO Trucks has developed a repair procedure as outlined in this document. Required Parts 1 – Grease Syringe All requests for grease syringes should be placed via e-mail ONLY to the following address: [email protected]. E-mail request for syringes must include: Quantity of syringes required, Dealership Name, Dealership Address, City, State, Zip Contact Name (person to receive syringes), and Contact phone number. The subject line of the email should include Beralub FR43 Grease, Volvo HVAC. An e-mail will be sent out notifying the contact person when the syringes have been packaged for shipment. Note: Information is subject to change without notice. Illustrations are used for reference only and can differ slightly from the actual vehicle being serviced. If you are not properly trained and certified in this procedure, ask your supervisor for training before you perform it. DANGER Do not attempt to repair or service a vehicle without the proper training, tools and service information. Failure to do so may result in component damage, serious injury or death. 1 Secure the vehicle for service by parking it on a flat level surface, applying the parking brake, chocking the rear wheel, and placing the transmission in neutral. 2 Open the hood. 3 Disconnect the air inlet pipe from the air filter housing. Page 2(11) Volvo Trucks North America Field Service Bulletin Date 2.2016 Group No. Release 874 052 02 4 CAUTION To avoid damage to the air filter restriction gauge and other surrounding components, use caution when removing the air filter assembly. Remove the air filter assembly. To avoid damage, place the air filter assembly in a secure location. Using a 14 mm socket, remove the outer fasteners securing the air filter assembly mount. Using a 15 mm socket, remove the inner fasteners securing the air filter assembly mount. Cycle the ‘recirculate’ switch on the HVAC control panel so that the air inlet doors are in the 3/4 closed position. Note: Do not turn the ignition off as the HVAC control panel doors will move to the fully open position with the switch off. W8080516 1 — Grease Syringe Page 7(11) Volvo Trucks North America Field Service Bulletin Date 2.2016 Group No. Release 874 052 02 9 For both doors, wipe excess grease from the air inlet door seal area. W8080517 10 With the ignition switch in the “ON” position still, cycle the recirculate switch to close the air inlet doors fully. Push grease into the hinge areas of both air inlet doors. Remove excess grease from the inlet doors. 11 With the air inlet doors closed, apply grease into the hinge area for both doors. Remove excess grease from the door hinge area. 12 With assistance, check the operation of the air inlet doors. Turn the ignition switch off. Install the air filter assembly mount. Torque fasteners to 60 ± 10 Nm (44 ± 7.4 ft-lb). W2081027 Page 9(11) Volvo Trucks North America Field Service Bulletin Date 2.2016 Group No. Release 874 052 02 14 CAUTION To avoid damage to the air filter restriction gauge and other surrounding components, use caution when installing the air filter assembly. CAUTION To avoid component damage, do not overtorque the air filter assembly fasteners. Install the air filter assembly. Torque fasteners to 48 ± 8 Nm (35 ± 6 ft-lb). W2081026 15 Connect the air inlet pipe to the air filter housing. Hand tighten the clamp securely. W8080519 1 — Air Intake Grille 17 Close the hood. Reimbursement This repair may be eligible for reimbursement if a product failure was experienced within time and mileage limits of the applicable Warranty coverage.
