No.: 15 TS-18 September 2, 2015 TO: Service Locations FROM: Service Systems Development SUBJECT: GHG14 EGR Slow Learn Routine ISSUE Some GHG14 DD Platform engines are experiencing an issue with the EGR slow learn routine in DiagnosticLink®. The tool will report ‘Failed to Start Routine’ but the EGR actual valve position does change. Starting the engine in the same key cycle as the routine can cause fault code SPN 2791/FMI 31, EGR Valve Actuator Unknown Error Code. CAUSE In some cases, there is an actual mechanical issue with the EGR system that causes a code. In other cases, no problem is found with the engine except for the failed learn routine. The routine moves the EGR valve and causes a large difference between actual and commanded EGR valve values when unit is started, which results in the code. REQUIRED ACTION After running an EGR slow learn routine by selecting the routine, key off the engine to allow the routine to finish and then verify no codes when turning the engine back on. If a code becomes active - follow the published troubleshooting for the applicable code in Power Service Literature in the EPA07/10/GHG14 DDEC VI/10 Electronics and Troubleshooting Manual (DDC-SVC-MAN-0084). If code only occurred after performing an EGR slow learn routine, clear the fault and release the unit. CLAIM PROCESS Normal in-warranty procedures apply. If a mechanical failure is found in warranty, file the claim against the appropriate failed part.
