* * TECHNICAL INFORMATION NOTICE * * DATE: December 20, 2017 TO: Mitsubishi Motors US & Puerto Rico Dealer Service and Parts Managers RE: 2018 Outlander PHEV Owner’s Manual Addendum TIN NO. TIN-17-00-007 AFFECTED VEHICLES: 2018 Outlander PHEV PURPOSE In order to provide the most accurate information for new owners of the 2018 Outlander PHEV, an addendum to the Owner’s Manual is being printed and inserted into each vehicle’s Quick Reference Guide. This addendum (attached at the end of this TIN) will be incorporated into future Owner’s Manuals, at which time it will no longer be placed inside the QRG. Until that time, dealers should inform every customer who purchases a new Outlander PHEV of this addendum to ensure they are aware of the latest information pertaining to their car. Addendum Addendum to 2018 Outlander PHEV Owner’s Manual Congratulations on your purchase of the all-new 2018 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. With regards to your vehicle’s owner’s manual, we wanted to provide you with several updates and clarifications which will supersede the materials contained in that document. 1. On pages 3-21, 3-23, and 3-24 of the owner’s manual regarding the section, “Normal charging (charging method with rated AC 120 V outlet)”, the first sentence of the warning beginning, “Always use a grounded outlet….” on page 3-21, and the following warnings beginning, “To reduce the risk of electric shock…” (page 3-23) “To reduce the risk of electric shock…” (page 3-24) “Always use an AC 120 V…” (page 3-24) will be replaced by, “To minimize the risk of electrical shock and/or a fire, always use an outlet rated AC 120 V that is grounded, protected by a ground-fault circuit interrupter, rated for 15 A or more, and connected to a dedicated circuit. Outlets located outdoors must be waterproofed. If you have any doubt whether your charging outlet meets these requirements, check with a licensed electrician.” 2. On page 3-21 of the owner’s manual regarding the section, “Normal charging (charging method with rated AC 120 V outlet)”, the following warnings beginning, “To reduce the risk of electric shock…” “Never use an outlet that is worn…” will be replaced by, “Never use an outlet that is damaged or will not hold the plug firmly in place. Never use a plug that is bent or damaged. Failure to follow these instructions can result in an electric shock and/or fire.” 3. On page 3-31 of the owner’s manual regarding the section, “Normal charging (using 240 V Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment)”, in the paragraph beginning, “For connecting/disconnecting the charging…”, the sentence, “Also, follow instructions provided with the 240 V EVSE” will be replaced by, “Also, Mitsubishi recommends that all 240V home charging docks be installed by a licensed professional electrician using a dedicated circuit. Please review and follow the instructions provided with your charging dock.” 4. On page 3-30 of the owner’s manual regarding the section, “EV charging cable”, the following warnings beginning, “Always use an outlet protected by...” “When using a non-waterproof outlet…” will be replaced by, “To minimize the risk of electrical shock and/or a fire, always use an outlet rated AC 120 V that is grounded, protected by a ground-fault circuit interrupter, rated for 15 A or more, and connected to a dedicated circuit. Outlets located outdoors must be waterproofed.
