One of the following DTCs is stored in the engine control module (ECM), J623 (address word 0001):
 DTC P001100 (A camshaft position (bank 1) timing over-advanced or system performance)
 DTC P002100 (A camshaft position (bank 2) timing over-advanced or system performance)

Technical Background
 On the camshaft adjustment valve, the filter element can
loosen (Figure 1).
 There is no consequential damage from loosened particles
in the oil circuit. They are gathered by the oil filter.

Service
1. The camshaft adjustment valve is fitted in
four different positions. Check the
affected camshaft adjustment control
valve (see DTC entry). The following list
shows which component is affected,
based on event entry:
 N205 – cylinder bank 1, inlet side
 N318 – cylinder bank 1, exhaust side
 N208 – cylinder bank 2, inlet side
 N319 – cylinder bank 2, exhaust side
2. Remove connector (Figure 2) from
control valve with DTC.
3. Remove bolt (Figure 2) from control
valve with DTC, then remove valve.

4. Install O-ring on new control valve.
Replace hex collard bolt and tighten new
bolt to 5 Nm.
