Starter Inhibit with Battery Charger ON
MY2018 J4500 Coaches beginning with unit 68374
• Concern
• MY2018 coaches equipped with the battery charger/inverter, (P/N 07-08-7957
or 07-08-9634) or battery charger (P/N 07-08-2627), are equipped with
programming that prevents the starter from cranking with the onboard
charger plugged into a wayside 110V outlet. This is a new safety feature to
many customers so there may be questions about this from the drivers. This
note is being sent out for information purposes only.
• Interim Correction
• There can be occasion when someone
tries to start the coach with the charger
plugged into a wayside 110V outlet. As a
warning to the driver, a message appears
on the dash saying STARTER FAULT.
The driver will then have to ensure the
110V power source is disconnected and
any extension cords are properly stowed
away.
• Next Steps
• MCI plans to revise the coach Operator’s Manual to include this
information and in more detail in the next update.
