Any previous printed versions of this bulletin should be discarded. Introduction Some 2014 – 2018 model year Corolla vehicles equipped with a 2ZR-FE or 2ZR-FAE engine may exhibit a MIL “ON” condition with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P2420 (Evaporative Emission Pressure Switching Valve Stuck Off). Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address this condition. Warranty Information OP CODE DESCRIPTION TIME OFP T1 T2 EG1509 Replace Charcoal Canister and Install Filter Sub-assembly 0.7 77740-02220 8A 02 APPLICABLE WARRANTY • This repair is covered under the Toyota Federal Emissions Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date. • Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin. Visit techinfo.toyota.com for more information regarding J2534 reprogramming. Repair Procedure 1. Using Techstream, check for stored DTCs. Is the following DTC present? P2420 – Evaporative Emission Pressure Switching Valve Stuck Off. • YES — Continue to step 2. • NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual. 2. Replace the charcoal canister assembly. Install the NEW filter sub-assembly. A. Disconnect and remove the air line tube. Figure 1. B. Remove the 12 mm bolt from the charcoal canister assembly. Install the NEW filter sub-assembly by sliding the metal bracket between the charcoal canister assembly and the vehicle frame. Figure 3. D. Reinstall the 12 mm bolt. Torque: 19 N*m (194 kgf*cm, 14 ft*lbf) E. Connect the NEW inlet and outlet air lines. Install the NEW clamp (P/N 90463-13003) or equivalent 7.5-inch nylon cable tie in the location shown in the figure. Figure 5. 4. Clear all DTCs using Techstream. 5. Run the EVAP System Check utility through Engine and ECT – Utility – EVAP System Check. 6. Verify no codes were set during the utility, then test drive the vehicle to confirm the repair and verify no codes are present. © 2018 Toyota Motor Sales, USA
