Tech Tip S-TT-0114-18 Subject February 13, 2018 Market USA SD Card VIN-lock Service Category Section Audio/Visual/Telematics Navigation/Multi Info Display Applicability 2016 iA APPLICABLE VEHICLES 2016 iA CONDITION In some cases, iA vehicles may exhibit an “Invalid SD Card” error message on the navigation display when an SD card has been exchanged between head units. This may be caused by the SD card becoming VIN-locked. The SD card will VIN-lock when either of the below conditions are met: -After the first installation of a new SD card and the vehicle has been driven approximately 60 miles. -If the card is removed from a vehicle (under the 60-mile threshold) and then inserted into a different vehicle. The SD card is then VIN-locked to the new vehicle. Note: Even if the SD card has not traveled a total of 60 miles, putting it into a di fferent vehicle will VINlock the card to the new vehicle. RECOMMENDATIONS In order to prevent this error do not exchange Navigation SD cards between vehicles.
