Introduction
Some 2014 model year Corolla vehicles equipped with remote keyless entry or Smart Key may
exhibit a condition in which the trunk is difficult to latch in cold temperatures only after the trunk has
been opened using the remote release on the key. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to
address this condition.

• This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months
or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.
• Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this

Repair Procedure
1. Confirm that the customer experienced a trunk that was difficult to latch under the
following conditions:
• The trunk was opened using the remote release on the key prior to the condition occurring.
• The ambient temperature was approximately 32◦F (0◦C) or colder prior to the
condition occurring.
Did the customer experience the above condition?
• YES — Continue to step 2.
• NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.
2. Confirm that the trunk closes normally when the ambient temperature is above freezing.
If the trunk does NOT close normally when the ambient temperature is above freezing, this
bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable Repair Manual.
3. Remove and replace the Luggage Compartment Lock Assembly.
Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), applicable model and model year
Repair Manual:
• 2014 Corolla:
Vehicle Exterior – Door/Hatch – “Door/Hatch: Luggage Compartment Door:
Disassembly / Reassembly”
4. Confirm normal operation of the trunk.
