Tech Tip L-TT-0135-13 Subject September 09, 2013 Market 10-13 RX350 Exhaust Rattle from Manifold Heat Shield Service Category Section Engine/Hybrid System Intake/Exhaust USA Applicability 2010-2013 RX350 APPLICABLE VEHICLES 2010-2013 RX350 CONDITION Some 2010-2013 RX350 vehicles may exhibit an exhaust “rattle” type noise from one or both of the two exhaust manifold heat shields pictured below: Catalytic converter and exhaust manifold heat shields RECOMMENDATIONS 1. Halt all diagnosis and repair. Open a Technical Assistance case (TAS) with all relevant details and call for diagnostic support. Be sure to: a. Record specific details from the customer on the operating conditions when the concern occurred. b. Record specific details about the characteristics of the noise, including which heat shield was the cause. c. Perform a Techstream HealthCheck and record any stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes. 2. If the problem occurs outside of TAS operating hours, replace the affected exhaust manifold, do NOT alter it in any way, and submit a Dealer Product Report for this issue. Include information about which heat shield produced the noise, and a sound or video file if possible. Retain the manifold for recovery.
