Introduction
Some 2013 model year FR-S vehicles may exhibit a condition where the outer rear view mirrors
vibrate while moving, most visibly at highway speeds. The retaining bolts and mirror housing base
have been revised to better ensure the stability of the mirror housing. Follow the procedure in
this bulletin to address this condition.

• This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months
or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.
• Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in
this bulletin.

Repair Procedure
1. Confirm the condition described in the Introduction.
2. Verify torque on the outer rear view mirror housing mounting bolts. Tighten and retest to confirm
cause or looseness.
Does the mirror still vibrate after tightening the bolts?
• YES — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
• NO — Continue to step 3.
3. Remove the outer rear view mirror assembly.
Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), applicable model and model year
Repair Manual:
• 2013 FR-S:
Vehicle Exterior – Mirror (ext) – “Mirror (Ext): Outer Rear View Mirror: Removal”
4. Remove the 3 Phillips screws, which hold the
mirror head to the base.

NOTICE
Avoid damaging the Phillips drive portion of
the screws by using the appropriate Phillips
screwdriver. The screws are installed with
a threadlocking compound and may require
some extra torque to remove.

Repair Procedure (Continued)
5. Apply Loctite® 243™ Threadlocker or equivalent compound to threads of NEW bolts,
and install.
Torque: 4 N*m (40.8 kgf*cm, 35.4 in*lbf)
6. Install the outer rear view mirror assembly.
Refer to TIS, applicable model and model year Repair Manual:
• 2013 FR-S:
Vehicle Exterior – Mirror (ext) – “Mirror (Ext): Outer Rear View Mirror: Installation”
7. Confirm the repair.
