The subwoofer speakers in the front doors make scraping noises with bass-heavy songs or spoken passages.
Vehicles with the B&O sound system (PR code 9VS) are affected.
Technical Background
The speaker can have a hardware restriction which causes a noise similar to a blown speaker. Additionally a
software improvement is available for the sound amplifier for this condition.
Production Solution
Hardware improvement introduced into series production start CW46/16 and new software as of CW26/17.

Service
1. Check whether the concern is caused by the speaker or by adjacent components (door trim, plastic parts,
cables, and etc.).
2. Follow TSB 2018187: 91 Sound system: speaker rattles, vibrations or audio interference and ensure there
are no outside influences that can be removed to fix the concern.
3. If no outside influence can be determined, then remove the speaker from its mounting location using the
repair instructions in ElsaPro at Repair Manual, Electrical System >> Communication >> 91 Communication
>> Sound System >> Left Front Bass Speaker -R21-/Right Front Bass Speaker -R23-, Removing and
Installing >> Left Front Bass Speaker -R21-/Right Front Bass Speaker -R23-, Removing and Installing,
9VD/9VS.
 Keep the speaker wiring connected and play audio through the MMI while the speaker is removed from its
mounting location and while being held.
 Verify the noise is heard when holding the speaker in hand.
 If it is determined the speaker is the source of the noise, with no outside influence, then use SVM to
update the parameter data of the digital sound system control module, J525 (address word 0047 – Sound
system (Bang & Olufsen)). The parameter part number and version can only be seen after the SVM
update completes. To access SVM, within ODIS start GFF >> Diagnosis >> Special functions >>
Software Version Management >> SVM code input.
