Introduction
Some 2016 – 2017 model year Tacoma, 2017 model year Sienna and Highlander, and
2018 model year Camry vehicles equipped with a 2GR-FKS engine may exhibit a knocking noise
from the vacuum pump. Follow the Repair Procedure below to address this condition.

 This repair is covered under the Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for
36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.

with crawl control?


Continue diagnosis using

NO — Continue to step 2.

2. Confirm the condition exists.
Is a knocking noise coming from the vacuum pump with the engine idling?
Refer to the audio link below for an example of the knocking noise condition:

 YES — Continue to step 3.

NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
3. Remove the vacuum pump assembly.
Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), applicable model and model year
Repair Manual:

2016 – 2017 Tacoma:
Brake – Brake System – “Brake System (Other): Vacuum Pump: Removal”

2017 Highlander:
Brake – Brake System – “Brake System (Other): Vacuum Pump: Removal”

2017 Sienna:

2018 Camry:

4. Install a NEW vacuum pump assembly.
