Complaint:
Howling noises (see reference file in attachment) in the drive train in the area of the propeller shaft center bearing.
Complaint occurs under following operating parameters:
- At outside temperatures below +5 °C (41 °F)
- In a vehicle speed range of 30 km/h - 70 km/h (18-44 mph)
- When accelerating under a light load
- Complaint disappears after short distance (approx. 2-3 km, (1-2 miles)

Cause:
Possible resonance in the intermediate bearing of propeller shaft (grooved ball bearing).
Remedy:
A test drive must be performed. For accurate analysis (localization) of the noise, use the "Steelman Chassis Ear" noise diagnosis kit (SI 58.40-P-0036A). Currently, if the intermediate bearing (grooved ball bearing) of the propeller shaft
was clearly identified as the cause (noise source), the propeller shafts may not be replaced.
Optimized parts will be available as from week 04/2017.
Note: Please do not replace any components as this will not remedy the complaint at this time.
