Complaint:
Diagnosis of poor engine running conditions which may be fuel related, laboratory testing required
Cause:
The fuel used in the vehicle may be incorrect (Gasoline, high biodiesel content > 5% ) or may have contamination present (water, oil, Diesel Exhaust Fluid) in the fuel.
Remedy:
MBUSA in cooperation with ALS Tribology Laboratory Group has offered a Diesel fuel laboratory test kit since April 8,
2010. This service allows dealers to accurately determine the quality of the fuel in the vehicle at the time of service.

Test kits can be ordered and stocked by dealers to be readily available for use by filling out the attached ALS "Diesel
Fuel Test Order Form." ALS has two testing centers located in Eastern and Western USA. Test results are electronically sent to the dealer contact information provided on the "Diesel Fuel Test Order Form." Submit completed form via
email or fax to either the Eastern or Western Test Center, whichever test center is closest to your dealership.
ALS will ship the test kits ordered to your dealership upon payment processing. The purchase of a test kit includes the
cost of testing the diesel fuel sample so no additional charge is incurred at time of fuel analysis.
Note: The cost of this test may be claimed under MBUSA "sublet repair" policy when used to diagnose a warrantable
manufacturer defect.
Shipment Contents Include:
Sample Bottle, UN- shipping box with packing tape, absorbent lined bag, shipping labels, "Instructions for Returning
Fuel Samples" sheet, "Closing Instructions," and "Fuel Sample Information Form."
There seems to be some confusion about the proper way to fill out the "Fuel Sample Information Form." In order to be
provided with more accurate and timely test results from ALS Testing Laboratories, it is important that dealers fill out
the "Fuel Sample Information Form" in the proper manner.
Attached is a completed sample of the "Fuel Sample Information Form." Please note that both the PTSS Case number and VIN number MUST be filled out. Failure to provide either of these numbers will result in MBUSA's inability to
properly process the diesel fuel test result that are received from the ALS Laboratories with the technical history of the
vehicle in our system. In addition, the "Instructions for Returning Fuel Samples" is also attaches showing how to ship
the fuel sample to ALS
A PTSS Case number is required for this repair/test; please open an online PTSS Case in order to receive a
PTSS Case number for the "Fuel Sample Information Form." Provide details of customer complaint, why the test is
being submitted, and which, if any, component is suspected.
When you receive the ALS Tribology "Fuel Sample Analysis" results, attach the test result to the PTSS case.
Mercedes-Benz specification values are listed in the attached "Example of ALS Fuel Test Analysis"
