Front And Rear Crossmember Corrosion (X58 10 Years Unlimited Mileage)
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting the front and rear crossmembers for perforation / rust
through and if necessary, replace the crossmember(s).

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or after August 26, 2005 (MDH
0826XX) and on or before July 23, 2007 (MDH 0723XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may describe a vibration at the steering wheel or may have been informed
by a technician or state vehicle inspection that the front and / or rear crossmember is
severely corroded.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the customer describes the symptom, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Lift the vehicle. Refer to the detailed repair procedures available in: DealerConnect>
TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 04 - Vehicle Quick Reference> Hoisting>
Standard Procedure.
2. Inspect the front and rear suspension crossmembers for perforation / rust through as
shown in (Fig. 1). Any perforation / rust through of suspension crossmembers
regardless of hole size or area affected will require crossmember replacement.
a. Both front and rear suspension crossmembers pass inspection, no perforation / rust
through was observed. Return the vehicle to the customer and advise the customer
to return for yearly inspections until the vehicle reaches 10 years of age.
b. Front suspension crossmember perforation / rust through was observed and
requires replacement. Rear suspension crossmember passes inspection, no
perforation / rust through was observed. Proceed to Step #3.
c. Front suspension crossmember passes inspection, no perforation / rust through was
observed. Rear suspension crossmember perforation / rust through was observed
and requires replacement. Proceed to Step #4.
d. Both front and rear suspension crossmembers show signs of perforation / rust
through and require replacement. Perform Step #3 and Step #4.

3. Replace the front crossmember if perforation / rust through is observed. Refer to the
detailed repair procedures available in: DealerConnect> TechCONNECT under:
Service Info> 13 - Frame and Bumpers> Frame> CROSSMEMBER, Front
Suspension> Removal/Installation.
4. Replace the rear crossmember if perforation / rust through is observed. Refer to the
detailed repair procedures available in: DealerConnect> TechCONNECT under:
Service Info> 13 - Frame and Bumpers> Frame> CROSSMEMBER, Rear
Suspension> Removal/Installation.

POLICY:
Warranty period for crossmember perforation / rust through is extended to 10 years.
Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
Vehicles included in this Service Bulletin applies to U.S. Market (sales code YAA) and
Canada Market (sales code YAC). See Warranty Bulletins; U.S. D-14-07, Canada
SAB-2014-09, and International ID-14-02 for details associated with the extended
warranty.
