Bulletin No.: PIC3843E Published date: 04/24/2018 Preliminary Information PIC3843E Incorrect Odometer Reading after BCM Replacement Models Brand: Model: VIN: Model Years: from Engine: to Transmissions: Chevrolet Cobalt 2005 - 2010 All All All All Chevrolet Malibu 2004 - 2008 All All All All Pontiac G5 2007 - 2010 All All All All Pontiac Pursuit 2005 - 2006 All All All All Saturn Ion 2003 - 2007 All All All All Supersession Statement This PI was superseded to update model years. Please discard PIC3843D. The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI. Condition / Concern A technician may comment that the odometer reading is incorrect after replacing BCM and performing a reprogramming event. Recommendations / Instructions After replacing a BCM, disconnect the IPC prior to programming the new BCM. If the IPC is not disconnected it may validate the current mileage (incorrect in this case) with the ECM and self-populate the BCM with the incorrect mileage. Disconnecting the IPC from BCM before programming will force the BCM to prompt the technician to enter the mileage during programming. If the incorrect mileage was transferred to the IPC, try programming again with the IPC disconnected. IMPORTANT: If this procedure still does not allow the correct the Odometer reading to be input then the BCM will need to be replaced again. Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. © 2016 General Motors. All Rights Reserved.
