Symptom:
Buzzing/vibrating noises in the exhaust system area at an engine speed of approx. 1,100 rpm during
deceleration.
Cause:
The exhaust system can expand in an unfavorable direction and become strained at operating
temperature.
Remedial
Action:
Loosen clamps on the exhaust system, bring the exhaust system to operating temperature and
re-position the clamps.

Mark the position of the clamp on the exhaust pipes with a water-resistant pen on both sides (front
and rear) of the clamp ( Front exhaust pipes -inset-).

Loosen front screws ( Clamps -1-) on the clamps ( Clamps -2-) slightly so that the front exhaust
pipes ( Clamps -3-) cannot be moved by hand.

Loosen rear screws ( Clamps -4-) on the clamps ( Clamps -2-) as far as required until you can
move the front exhaust pipes ( Clamps -3-) with the clamps ( Clamps -2-) on the rear exhaust
pipes.

Bring the exhaust system to operating temperature. To do this, test-drive the vehicle at increased
load and engine speed of between 4,000 and 5,000 rpm if necessary.

After the test drive, check the position of the clamps and correct them if necessary:

At the front, the clamp should be aligned with the indicated marking ( Front exhaust pipes
-item A-).
At the rear, the distance from the edge of the clamp to the marking must not be more than 5
mm.

Tighten screws ( Clamps -1 and 4-) on the clamps ( Clamps -2-) to  Tightening torque 30 Nm
(22 ftlb.) .
