Condition
Some customers may comment on feeling slight rocking movement of a front seat while
shifting weight from seat, during hard stops, and/or when driving over rough road
surfaces.
Cause
The cause of the condition may be unintended movement of the driver or passenger seat
vertical adjuster actuator.
Correction
Apply load, then re-torque the three fasteners retaining the seat vertical adjuster actuator
following the Service Procedure below.

Service Procedure

1. Prepare the affected seat for removal by powering
the seat cushion to it’s fully upward position, then
lower it approximately 5.0–10 mm (0.20–
0.40 in).
3. Position seat on a clean, protected surface with the
seatback angled down and the underside
accessible.
4784177
4784167
2. Remove the seat. Refer to Driver or Passenger
Seat Removal and Installation in SI.

4789333
Note: The intent on applying a load to the pinion shaft
(1) is to force full gear mesh, and lessen any teeth
clearance between the gear on the actuator (2) and the
sprocket (3) on the seat track, reducing seat
movement.

6. Using a long, regular screwdriver braced against
the seat frame (2), pry against the actuator pinion
shaft (1). This will apply a load which will allow the
pinion gear to be FIRMLY pressed into the
sprocket.

8. With the top fastener holding the load, tighten the
middle then the lower nuts to the same torque
specification.
4789343
Important: The three nuts should be tightened in
sequence of top-most nut first, middle second, and
lower last.
7. Continue to apply load to the pinion shaft (3) with
the screwdriver (2), and use a torque wrench (1) to
tighten the top-most fastener first.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 28 Y (21 lb ft).
4784192
9. Reinstall the seat cushion outer finish cover (1).
Refer to Front Seat Cushion Outer Finish Cover
Replacement in SI.
10. Reinstall the seat to the vehicle. Refer to Driver or
Passenger Seat Removal and Installation in SI.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these
technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper
service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a
job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your
vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the
