Symptom:
• Fault codes including but not limited to: 1682, 1696, 2976, 3558, 3559, 3572, 3574,
3577, 3596, and 4251.
Root Cause:
• Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) can freeze, causing the aftertreatment DEF dosing unit
electrical connector to crack and leak DEF.
Confirmation
• Use the appropriate fault code troubleshooting tree to confirm and troubleshoot the
corresponding fault codes. See the corresponding Fault Code Troubleshooting
Manual.
• During the troubleshooting process, look for evidence of leaking DEF around the
aftertreatment DEF dosing unit electrical connector. See Figure 1 below.

Resolution
If DEF is found leaking around the aftertreatment DEF dosing unit electrical connector,
replace the aftertreatment DEF dosing unit. See the corresponding Service Manual.
Reference Procedure 011-058 in Section 11.
