Check Pressure Regulating Valve
Daimler AG (‘DAG’), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles, has determined that on
certain SPRINTER vehicles equipped with diesel engine OM642, the pressure regulating valve on the rail
(fuel distributor rail of common rail system) may be slightly leaky, as two seals may not have been fitted
with the required degree of precision. Consequently, very small quantities of diesel fuel could leak out
along the engine wiring harness and, in the most unfavorable case, enter the engine control unit which
could lead to malfunctions and possible failure of the exhaust gas cleaning system. In such an instance,
the driver would be notified of the situation through activation of the engine indicator lamp in the
instrument cluster. A fire hazard or a fuel leak onto the roadway can however be ruled out. Please check
the affected vehicles to see if the valve on the rail has a leakage. If so, replace the affected component
parts.
Prior to performing this Service Campaign:

Please check VMI to determine if the vehicle is involved in the Campaign and if it has been previously
repaired.

Please review the entire Service Campaign bulletin and follow the repair procedure exactly as
described.
Approximately 46 vehicles are affected.

Steps

Remove air filter housing

Install air filter housing (1)
Keep all ignition sources out of hazard area.
Do not carry out any work on system when it is
pressurized.
Notes
For authorized Mercedes-Benz service partners, only
the entry in the "Extended VEGA Application" (EVA)
system, in the "Current" tab is decisive. An additional
test of the affected vehicles in the workshop
information system (WIS) or vehicle list is thereby not
necessary.
To do so, disconnect electrical connector from pressure
regulating valve (Y74/6).
Any internal leakage will be visible in the form of diesel fuel
in the electrical connector.
If there is no diesel fuel in the electrical connector of the
pressure regulating valve (Y74/6).

No measure necessary. Proceed with operation step 5.
If there is diesel fuel in the electrical connector of the
pressure regulating valve (Y74/6).
↓
Proceed with operation step 4.
To do so, disconnect electrical connectors from CDI
control unit (N3/30).
If diesel fuel is not present in the electrical connectors
of the CDI control unit (N3/30).
↓
Replace engine wiring harness (3) and rail (2).
If diesel fuel is present in the electrical connectors of
the CDI control unit (N3/30).
↓
Replace CDI control unit (N3/30), engine wiring
harness (3) and rail (2).
