T-SB-0211-17 April 19, 2017 Abnormal "Squeak" Noise From Rear Suspension Over Uneven Roads Service Category Suspension Section Rear Suspension Market USA Applicability YEAR(S) MODEL(S) 2014 - 2017 Highlander, Highlander HV ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Introduction Some 2014 – 2017 model year Highlander and Highlander HV vehicles may exhibit an abnormal squeak, squawk or groan type noise from the rear suspension when traveling over uneven roads, or when the vehicle comes to a complete stop, which may become more pronounced in colder ambient temperatures. The abnormal noise may be caused by the rear trailing arm bushing. An updated Rear Trailing Arm Assembly is available. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address this condition. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date. Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin. Confirm the condition. 2. Using ChassisEAR™ (or equivalent), test drive over uneven road surfaces, such as turning into a sloped driveway, to verify the condition is coming from the bushings. HINT Applying soapy water to the suspected bushing may temporarily diminish the noise intensity, assisting to identify the source of the noise. Is a squeak, squawk or groan type noise present? YES — Continue to step 3. NO — This bulletin does NOT apply.
