February 7, 2018 Service Bulletin Replace Charge Port ECU Classification Campaign Bulletin Section/Group 44 - High Voltage System Country/Region United States Year 2017, 2018 Model Model 3 Version All Bulletin Classification: This campaign bulletin addresses a known non-safety-related condition and provides recommended technical diagnosis and repair procedures. Apply this procedure to all vehicles in the affected VIN range listed. These instructions assume knowledge of motor vehicle and high voltage electrical component repairs, and should only be executed by trained professionals. Tesla assumes no liability for injury or property damage due to a failure to properly follow these instructions or repairs attempted by unqualified individuals. Condition On some Model 3 vehicles, an electrostatic discharge might damage the charge port ECU radio transceiver. As a result, an alert displays on the touchscreen, and the charge port door is unable to be opened using the button on a charger handle. The charge port door opens using other methods. Correction Inspect the vehicle for symptoms related to the condition. If necessary, replace the charge port ECU with an updated component. Inspect the vehicle for a “Contact Tesla Service” alert on the touchscreen and the ability to open the charge port door using the button on a Supercharger, Universal Mobile Connector, or Wall Connector handle. If the charger handle button opens the charge port door, discontinue this procedure. If the charger handle button is unable to open the charge port door, replace the charge port ECU (refer to Service Manual procedure 44015002). Affected VIN(s) Affected Model 3 vehicles built between approximately June 2017 and January 2018. NOTE: This is a simplified summary of the affected VIN list.
