Service Technical Information 59/18 ENU 2130 2 Complaint - Oil Leak On Turbocharger: Reworking Turbocharger (59/18) Model Line: 911 Carrera (991) Model Year: As of 2017 Subject: Turbocharger Information: If the customer complains about an oil leak on the turbocharger, always note the following information before doing any other work. The turbocharger does not necessarily have to be replaced. 1 Clean oil stains using a suitable cleaning agent ("solvent naphtha" or similar product – commercially available) and a clean cloth. 2 Spray the affected areas with a suitable leak-locating spray to find the exact location of the leak. 3 Perform a test drive. Information After the test drive, check the affected areas on the turbocharger and find exactly where the oil leak is coming from: • If oil is leaking from around the connections of a vent line, oil feed line or oil return line, • only the turbocharger on bank 2 is affected, • there is no loss of engine power or • the turbocharger shows no signs of damage: Correct the leak by replacing the relevant vent line/oil line along with its clips and seals, see Workshop Manual '217119 Removing and installing oil feed line for turbocharger', Workshop Manual '217319 Removing and installing oil bleeder line on turbocharger' or Workshop Manual '217819 Removing and installing oil return line for turbocharger'. • If oil is leaking from around the intake manifold on the right-hand side (bank 2), Check the seals (O-rings) in the intake manifold and replace them if necessary, see Workshop Manual '212419 Removing and installing intake manifold' and Check the oil separator for damage and replace it if necessary. End of action required. – If there are no signs of an oil leak after the test drive, ask the customer to do the following: Perform an "extended test drive" by driving the vehicle over a distance of approx. 600 miles (1,000 km) if possible and then check again for an oil leak (as described earlier in steps 1 to 3).
