Service Technical Information 75/17 ENU 6486 6 Noise Symptom - Noises From Plastic Rear Window: Replacing rear window (SY 75/17) Vehicle Type: 911 GT3 RS (991) Model Year: As of 2015 Equipment: Plastic rear window (made of polycarbonate) Subject: Rear window Symptom: The plastic rear window can become damaged or part of it can become visibly detached from the body due to different temperatures and tension while driving. This can cause wind noise. Cause: The components of the rear window – plastic (polycarbonate), screen print and primer – are not chemically compatible. Impurities during the manufacturing process and tension due to temperature effects while driving result in noises and cause water to leak in. Remedial Action: In the event of a customer complaint about noises and if there are signs of damage in the bonding surface area ( Damaged screen print -area arrows-), always check whether the bonding has become detached before doing any other work: • • To do this, press lightly against the window all around the edge of the rear window from inside the vehicle using two fingers. If you feel the rear window lifting off in the bonding area ( Damaged screen print -area arrows-), the bonding has become detached. In the event of a customer complaint about noises, the area can also be sprayed with leak-locating spray/soapy water from outside and then blasted with compressed air from inside the vehicle. If bubbles form, the bonding has also become detached. The rear window must be replaced, see Workshop Manual Workshop Manual '648655 Replacing rear window (Coupé)'.
