ROBUSTNESS MEASURE: LOW PROFILE TIRES
MODEL
G12 (7 Series sedan) SOP w/ 024N, 027Z, 02T3, 021H
SITUATION
Low profile tires have a higher likelihood of failure from road surface and debris impacts.
CAUSE
Distance from wheel to tire is shorter than standard profile tires.
CORRECTION
In case the customer drives in an environment with rough road conditions, it is recommended to
inflate the 20” tires on G12 models to a higher tire pressure. This will increase the force needed to
permit an undesirable impact of the tire onto the wheel.
This is a recommendation and not a mandatory measure. It will decrease the likelihood of a tire
failure, but does not fix road impact problems under all circumstances.
PROCEDURE
1. Increase the tire pressure to 3.2bar/46psi for all 20” performance tires on G12 models.
2. Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) must be re-initialized with the tire pressure
change.
3. Notify your customer about the measure as the tire pressure will be above the pressure
indicated on the tire pressure label on the “B” pillar.
NOTE: The safety and vehicle dynamics of the car are not jeopardized by this higher tire
pressure.
