Page 1 of 3 SI B64 02 15 Heating and Air Conditioning May 2015 Technical Service SUBJECT A/C Makes Unusual Whistling Noise from Center Vents MODEL F15 (X5) F16 (X6) F85 (X5 M) F86 (X6 M) Produced from July 31, 2013 to February 12, 2015 SITUATION An unusual whistling noise can be heard coming from the center vent area for approximately15 seconds after the A/C is switched on. CAUSE Evaporator in the A/C system PROCEDURE 1. Using ISTA, perform a vehicle test and complete all test plans for related stored fault codes. 2. If there are no fault codes stored, proceed to the next step and replace the evaporator. 3. Refer to Repair Instruction 64 11 206 and the B640215 attachment. Necessary preliminary tasks: • Drain off the air conditioning system. • Remove the support for the dashboard. • Unclip the wiring harness mounting from the heater. • Remove the fresh air duct. • Remove the acoustic cover. • Remove the center console. N63T only: • Remove the intake silencer housing. Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10). Defect Code: 64 51 00 78 00 All models listed Labor Operation: 00 00 006 Labor Allowance: Description: Refer to KSD2 Performing “vehicle test” (with vehicle diagnosis system – checking faults) Refer to KSD2 Connect an approved battery charger/power supply (indicated in KSD2 as “Charging battery”) Labor Allowance: Description: Refer to KSD2 Removing and installing or replacing the heater (includes discharging, evacuating and filling air conditioner) Refer to KSD2 Removing and installing or replacing the evaporator (heater/air conditioner removed) And: 61 21 528 And for the: F15 (X5) and F16 (X6) Labor Operation: 64 11 703 And: 64 51 591 If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 00 00 556 instead. Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowances. Or for the: F85 (X5 M) and F86 (X6 M) Note: Please claim this portion of the repair as outlined below until the applicable labor operations are available in KSD2. https://www.bmwtis.net/tiscode/cgi-bin/bulletin.aspx?sie_path=/tsb/bulletins/htm_store/235... 6/4/2015 Page 3 of 3 Labor Operation: 64 99 000 Labor Allowance: Description: 91 FRU Work time for removing and installing or replacing the heater (includes discharging, evacuating and filling air conditioner) and removing and installing or replacing the evaporator (heater/air conditioner removed) Even though work time labor operation code 64 99 000 ends in “000,” it is not considered a Main labor operation. Also, since the “work time” FRU allowance to be claimed is specified, a separate punch time is not required. However, an explanation on the repair order and the claim comments is required. Other Repairs If performing the ISTA diagnostics and related test plans results with other eligible and covered work, claim this work with the applicable defect code and/or labor operations listed in KSD2.
