GROUP CHA MODEL 2012-2013MY Optima (QF) NUMBER 092 DATE October 2018 TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN SUBJECT: BRAKE PEDAL STOPPER PAD REPLACEMENT This bulletin provides the procedure to replace the brake pedal stopper pad on some 20122013MY Optima (QF) vehicles, produced from August 12, 2011 through September 27, 2013. The brake pedal stopper pad may deteriorate over time, allowing the stop lamp switch plunger to remain extended when the brake pedal is released. A deteriorated pad can result in the continuous illumination of the stop lamps. If the continuous illumination of the stop lamps is duplicated, follow the procedure outlined in this bulletin to replace the brake pedal stopper pad. NOTICE VINs that start with 5XX are designated Optima (QF) and produced in the United States. This TSB applies to Optima (QF) that is produced in United States only. Ensure the vehicle is in Park (P) and the emergency parking brake is applied. 2. Press and hold the brake pedal down using a brake depressor (A), as shown, to allow access to the brake pedal stopper pad (B). A B TSB: CHA092 Optima (QF) October 2018 A Page 3 of 5 SUBJECT: 3. BRAKE PEDAL STOPPER PAD REPLACEMENT Using a clip/trim removal tool (C), carefully remove the brake pedal stopper pad (B). C B 4. Cut the nub off of the removed brake pedal stopper pad (B) as shown and discard both pieces of the pad (B). B 5. Install the new brake pedal stopper pad (D). BRAKE PEDAL STOPPER PAD REPLACEMENT Remove the brake depressor tool and then without pressing the brake pedal, adjust the clearance between the brake pedal stopper pad (D) and stop lamp switch housing (E) by referring to the “Brake System → Brake Pedal → Repair procedure” chapter in the applicable Shop Manual on KGIS. E D Clearance Specification: 0.04 - 0.08 in. (1.0 - 2.0 mm) 7. Confirm proper function of the rear brake lamps when applying the brake pedal. Ensure the rear brake lamps turn off after releasing the brake pedal. NOTICE ESC MIL may be illuminated during this procedure with DTC C1513 Brake Switch Error. If the ESC MIL is illuminated, cycle the ignition. If the ESC MIL is still illuminated, confirm DTC C1513 using the KDS and clear the DTC. If there is a DTC other than C1513, perform the appropriate diagnostic service and claim under warranty.
