SUBJECT
Water Ingress into the Luggage Compartment after opening the Tailgate
MODEL
F34 (3 Series Gran Turismo)
Produced from February 28, 2013 to August 27, 2015
SITUATION
A small quantity of water may enter the luggage compartment after opening the tailgate
CAUSE
The water drain hose(s) on the rear spoiler is blocked.
PROCEDURE
Replace both water drain grommets with the “newer version,” the “new version” part number for
the water drain grommet is 51 62 7 345 850.
Move the rear spoiler out manually (see the Owner’s Handbook content provided below).
Manual mode
z
Manual mode can be used for cleaning of the rear spoiler with the ignition switched on or the
engine running.
z
Keep the spoiler movement area unobstructed.
z
Keep the movement area of the rear spoiler free from icing, e.g., otherwise injuries may
occur.
Extending the rear spoiler
z
Press the button.
z
The LED lights up and the rear spoiler is extended.
Use Repair Instructions 51 49 000 and
remove the rear trim panels.

Check both water drain hoses for
obstructions and clean with
compressed air if needed.
z
If the drain hose cannot be
cleared, then replace as needed.
The close up shows the drain area of
the driver’s side.
Move the rear spoiler back in manually (see Owner’s Handbook).

Retracting the rear spoiler

Possible only at vehicle speeds below 65 mph/110 km/h.
z
Press button.
z
The rear spoiler is retracted and the LED goes out.
z
The system is in automatic mode.
z
At vehicle speeds below 10 mph/20 km/h:

If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, then use Plus code labor operation 51 49 500
instead.
Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowances.
Work time labor operation codes 51 00 001 and 51 99 000 are not considered a Main labor
operations. Also, since the “work time” FRU allowances to be claimed are specified, separate
punch times are not required.
