Page 1 of 2 SI B12 46 15 Engine Electrical Systems December 2015 Technical Service SUBJECT Service Action: Program PHEV Control Units MODEL F15 PHEV (X5 xDrive40e) SITUATION The DME (Digital Motor Electronics) software is not sufficiently robust and may lead to sporadic fault code entries. AFFECTED VEHICLES Certain F15 PHEV vehicles produced between August 7 and December 1, 2015. Vehicles which require this Service Action to be completed will show it as “Open” when checked either in AIR, the “Service Menu” of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or with the Key Reader. PROCEDURE Program and code the complete vehicle with ISTA/P 3.57.2 (Target I-Level 15-11-503) or higher. Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software. Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10). For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to Centernet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming. WARRANTY INFORMATION Reimbursement for this Service Action will be via normal claim entry utilizing the following information: Defect Code: 00 12 15 04 00 Labor Operation: Labor Allowance: Description: 1 FRU Programming and coding was performed previously in conjunction with another campaign or repair (vehicle is already at the specified “Target” integration level or higher, no repair is necessary) (Plus work) 00 63 856 Or: https://www.bmwtis.net/tiscode/cgi-bin/bulletin.aspx?sie_path=/tsb/bulletins/htm_store/292... 1/4/2016 Page 2 of 2 00 63 855 8 FRU Program and code control units (includes connecting an approved battery charger/power supply and performing a vehicle test) (Plus work) Vehicle Programming and Encoding If a control module was working properly and it fails to program correctly or requires initialization, please claim this additional work with the applicable KSD2 labor operations under the defect code listed above. The diagnosis and repair of vehicles “arriving” with failed control modules or stored faults which will cause them to fail during programming cannot be claimed under the defect code listed in this bulletin. Other Repairs If other eligible and covered work is performed “prior” to programming and coding the vehicle, claim this work with the applicable defect code and labor operations listed in KSD2.
