Page 1 of 3 SI B13 03 14 Fuel Systems September 2014 Technical Service This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B13 03 14 dated July 2014. designates changes to this revision SUBJECT Service Engine Soon Lamp (MIL) On with NOx Sensor Faults Stored MODEL F25 (X3 xDrive 28d) F30 (3 Series Sedan 328d) F31 (3 Series Sport Wagon 328d) With the N47T engine produced to 7/2014 F02 (7 Series Sedan 740Ld) F10 (5 Series Sedan 535d) F15 (X5 xDrive 35d) With the N57T engine produced to 7/2014 SITUATION The Service Engine Soon lamp (MIL) is on with either of the following nitrogen oxide (NOx) sensor faults stored: 2B6200 - NOx sensor before DeNOx catalytic converter, plausibility: Sensor self-diagnosis of sensitivity 2B6300 - NOx sensor After DeNOx catalytic converter, plausibility: Sensor self-diagnosis of sensitivity These stored faults would not cause a problem with engine performance. This NOx self-diagnostic routine is performed only after the engine has been shut off. In some situations, the diagnostic function of both NOx sensors can be too sensitive when sampling the residual exhaust gases, leading to an erroneous fault being set. CAUSE Unfavorable DDE software diagnostics CORRECTION Using the latest version of ISTA, complete the recommended test plans to identify if the sensor is defective or not. Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.53.2 or a more recent version. Always connect a BMW approved battery charger/power supply (SI B04 23 10). For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to Centernet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming. If after programming, any of the faults listed above continue to be stored following a few driving cycles, continue diagnosis with ISTA and replace the sensor. Defect Code: 11 78 07 15 00 NOx sensor before SCR catalytic converter or 11 78 08 15 00 NOx sensor after SCR catalytic converter Labor Operation: Labor Allowance: Description: 00 00 006 Refer to KSD2 Performing “vehicle test” (with vehicle diagnosis system – checking faults) Refer to KSD2 Connect an approved battery charger/power supply (indicated in KSD2 as “Charging battery”) Work time (WT) Performing vehicle diagnosis – test module Refer to KSD2 Programming / encoding control unit(s) And: 61 21 528 And, as necessary: 61 00 006 And: 61 00 730 Labor operation code 00 00 006 is a Main labor operation. If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 00 00 556 instead. Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance. Enter the Chassis Number, which consists of the last 7 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Work time (WT) labor operation 61 00 006 requires an individual punch time. If a control module or component was working properly and/or had no related faults stored prior to vehicle programming and it fails to program correctly or requires initialization, this additional work must be claimed with separate labor operations under the defect code listed above; refer to KSD2. Repairs to control modules and components with pre-existing conditions are not eligible to be claimed under the defect code listed in this bulletin. Other Repairs If performing ISTA diagnostics and related test plans results in other eligible and covered work, claim this work with the applicable defect code and/or labor operations listed in KSD2.
