Wheel assembly on rear axle
Symptom:
During and after race track use, loud noises can sometimes come from the wheel assembly on the rear
axle - particularly on bends.
Cause:
Particles of dirt on the contact surfaces can cause micro-movements in the wheel assembly on the rear
axle (rim/brake disc/wheel hub) and this can result in loud noises.
Remedial
Action:
In the event of a customer complaint, clean the wheel assembly on the rear axle as described under
"Work Procedure".

Introduction:
Since June 14, 2018 or as of chassis number WP0ZZZ99ZKS158805, closer attention has been
paid during production to ensuring that there are no particles of dirt on the affected components before
fitting them.

Preliminary work:

Remove wheel and check central wheel lock.

Remove brake caliper.

Check threaded joint for wheel driver pins for a torque of 22 Nm (16 ftlb.)
and then remove brake disc. If the pins can still be turned, replace pins and screws
and clean the thread and contact surfaces to remove any remaining screw-locking
material.

Technical Information
Check wheel driver pins for damage. If there are visible signs of damage, replace pins and
screws and clean the thread and contact surfaces to remove any remaining screw-locking
material.
WARNING
Brake cleaner

Wear personal protective gear.

Ensure that there is good ventilation.

Avoid contact with brake cleaner.
Information
Always make sure that the cleaned surfaces are kept clean until assembly is complete.

Clean wheel assembly on the rear axle:

Brush off wheel hub ( Cleaning wheel hub
-1-) using a brass brush until all particles
of dirt have been removed. Then, spray a
microfibre cloth with brake cleaner and use
it to rub off the wheel hub ( Cleaning wheel
hub -1-).

Clean brake dust off the inner brake disc hub
( Cleaning brake disc hub -1-) and brush
off the contact surface between the brake
disc and wheel hub ( Cleaning brake disc
hub -2-) using a brass brush until all particles
of dirt have been removed. Then, spray a
microfibre cloth with brake cleaner and use it
to rub off the cleaned areas.

use a brass brush).
