The changes involve a different security protocol, commonly known as cryptology. IMPORTANT: The two systems use a different Intelligent Key, BCM, and Intelligent Key antennas. The components of the new and old systems are NOT interchangeable. Once an Intelligent Key is programmed to a vehicle with the NEW Intelligent Key system, it cannot be reprogrammed to any other vehicle.
