Introduction
Some 2GR-FKS-equipped Camry (2018 model year), Highlander, Sienna (both 2017 – 2018
model year), and Tacoma (2016 – 2018 model year) vehicles may exhibit a knocking noise from
the vacuum pump. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

1. If the vehicle is a Tacoma, is it equipped
with crawl control?

YES — This bulletin does NOT apply.
Continue diagnosis using
the applicable Repair Manual.

NO — Continue to step 2.

2. Confirm the condition exists.
Is a knocking noise coming from the vacuum pump with the engine idling?
Refer to the audio link below for an example of the knocking noise condition:

 YES — Continue to step 3.

NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
3. Remove the vacuum pump assembly.
Refer to TIS, applicable model and model year Repair Manual:

2016 – 2018 Tacoma:
Brake – Brake System – “Brake: Vacuum Pump: Removal”

2017 – 2018 Highlander:
Brake – Brake System – “Brake System (Other): Vacuum Pump: Removal”

2017 – 2018 Sienna:
Brake – Brake System – “Brake System (Other): Vacuum Pump: Removal”

2018 Camry:

4. Install the NEW vacuum pump assembly.
