SUBJECT
Various Faults Concerning the Automatic Tailgate Operation
MODEL
E70 (X5) all models with automatic tailgate (option code 316)
SITUATION
Complaints of sporadic or permanent faults may exist with the automatic tailgate function. One or more of the
following fault codes have been stored: A2AB, A2B1, A2B2, A2B3, A2B4, A2B5, A2B6, A2B7, A2B8, A2B9, A2BA,
A2BC, A2BE, and A6E2.
CAUSE
The following four main faults are currently known:
1. The lower tailgate does not close completely.
2. The tailgate wiring harness near the hinge area is damaged.
3. Fault in the left or right side electric spindle drive
4. Fault in the tailgate lock.
5.
The tailgate lock and tailgate lift drive connectors may have corrosion or discoloration. If any is seen, the
part must be replaced.
PROCEDURE
Refer to the attachment.
Note: If any wiring harness damage is found, submit a PuMA Info Only case and attach detailed pictures
showing the location and the actual damage.

Other Repairs
As outlined in the Procedure attachment, if performing the ISTA diagnostics and related test plans results with other
eligible and covered work, claim this work with the applicable defect code and labor operations listed in KSD2.
Note: Please follow any TeileClearing (TC) or Diagcode (DC) requirements that may apply to this additional
work.
