Introduction
Some 2016 – 2018 model year Tacoma vehicles equipped with an LED type center high mount
stop lamp may exhibit a water leak into the rear of the cab. Upon closer inspection, it may
become apparent that the water leak is coming from the space between the center high mount
stop lamp and the body of the vehicle. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address
this condition.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY
 This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months
or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.
 Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in
this bulletin.

Repair Procedure
1. Confirm the water leak condition exists.
A. Apply water on and around the center high mount stop lamp and check the interior trim,
headliner, and back glass for water drop formations on the interior of the vehicle.
Does the vehicle exhibit a water leak into the rear of the cab?

YES — Continue to substep B.

NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
B. Is the source of the leak above the headliner?

YES — Continue to step 2.

NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
2. Lower the headliner to inspect for the source of the leak.
Is the source of the leak the center high mount stop lamp?

YES — Continue to step 3.

NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.

Repair Procedure (continued)
3. Remove the center stop lamp assembly.
Refer to TIS, applicable model and model year Repair Manual:

2016 – 2018 Tacoma:
Vehicle Interior – Lighting (int) – “Lighting: High Mounted Stop Light Assembly: Removal”
4. Install the NEW center stop lamp assembly.
NOTE
Make sure the body of the vehicle is clean and dry BEFORE installing the NEW part.

5. Confirm that the water leak condition no longer exists.
