Please read this Service Information bulletin in its entirety: the content has been completely reformatted. designates changes to this revision SUBJECT DMTL Pump: Warranty Extension to 10 Years/120,000 Miles MODEL R55 (2008 model year) R56 (2007 and 2008 model years) All with the N12 engine INFORMATION MINI has become aware of a potential problem with the durability of the Tank Leak Diagnostic Module (DMTL) pump on R55 (MY 2008 Clubman) and R56 (MY 2007 and 2008 Hardtop) vehicles equipped with the N12 engine. For these vehicles, the warranty coverage for the DMTL Pump has been extended to 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever occurs first, as determined from the original in-service date: This is a “warranty coverage extension,” and not a Recall or Service Action. There is no immediate repair required, except if the MINI vehicle is currently experiencing a problem. Customer Notification Letter of the Warranty Coverage Extension Even though this is NOT a Recall, MINI sent “Customer Notification” letters to inform customers of the extension of the MINI New Passenger Limited Warranty for the specific component listed above. Sample letters are attached. To assist you in identifying eligible vehicles, the DCSnet Warranty Vehicle Inquiry has been updated. Please select the “Vehicle Comment” button to display the extended coverage information. SITUATION On affected vehicles, the Tank Leak Diagnostic Module (DMTL) pump can fail. Some vehicles will have the Service Engine Soon lamp illuminated, but the vehicle’s drivability and engine performance will not be reduced by this DMTL pump malfunction. https://www.minitis.net/tiscode/cgi-bin/bulletin.aspx?sie_path=/tsb/bulletins/htm_store/15720.6.M01051... 11/12/2013 Page 2 of 3 PROCEDURE If the DMTL pump fails during the extended warranty coverage period, perform the appropriate repair. Do not perform this repair as a preventive measure. When diagnosed, one or more of the following faults are stored in the DME fault memory: 2733 DMTL, module error 2734 DMTL, module error 2735 DMTL, module error 2736 DMTL, module error For this repair procedure only, if the above fault(s) are stored in the DME, please do not perform the corresponding test plan. Replace the DMTL pump with the improved version (P/N 16 13 7 193 479). For the DMTL pump replacement instructions, refer to REP 16 13 015. The first repair is to be submitted as outlined in the Warranty Information section below. Should the part fail again, subsequent repairs must be submitted following the normal parts warranty rules. Note: Always check the “Vehicle Comments” section first before performing any repairs. The DMTL pump 10 year/120,000 mile warranty supersedes any applicable coverage provided under the MINI NEXT program or any BMW Group Vehicle Service Contract in effect. This component’s warranty extension applies to the above-listed models only and is transferable. It is applicable to eligible vehicles that are registered and operated in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. The existing warranty coverage for all other parts has not changed. If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 00 60 543 instead. Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance. Enter the Chassis Number, which consists of the last 7 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
