Page 1 of 3 SI B51 09 16 Body Equipment March 2016 Technical Service SUBJECT Automatic Trunk Does Not Open Fully MODEL F10 (5 Series Sedan) with option code (SA316) Produced October 9, 2014 to April 1, 2016 SITUATION Automatic trunk does not open fully on first attempt when using any opening options. During the first unlock attempt, whether using: z the inside trunk switch, z remote key, z Smart opener (foot swipe), the automatic trunk lid only opens part way as shown. CAUSE HKL software and trunk latch adjustment issue. CORRECTION Adjust trunk lid then reprogram and code vehicle. Note: Replacement of any components for automatic trunk opening will not help. PROCEDURE In the event of a customer concern, the repair procedure is as follows: 1. Use Repair Instruction 51 24 004 and check or adjust the trunk lid. 2. Perform diagnosis with ISTA/D and troubleshoot any related faults. 3. Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 3.58.1 or higher (integration level F010-16-03-502 or higher). 4. Defect Code: 51 24 01 41 00 Luggage compartment lid lock Labor Operation: Labor Allowance: Description: 51 24 004 Refer to KSD2 Adjusting luggage compartment lid lock (Main work) If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, for example with the repair below, use the Plus code labor operation 51 24 504 instead. And/or: Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks or the BMW Certified Pre-Owned Program. Defect Code: 61 35 42 02 00 Rear lift control unit (HKL) Labor Operation: Labor Allowance: Description: 00 00 006 Refer to KSD2 Performing “vehicle test” (with vehicle diagnosis system – checking faults) Refer to KSD2 Connect an approved battery charger/power supply(indicated in KSD2 as “Charging battery”) Refer to KSD2 Programming / encoding control unit(s) And: 61 21 528 And: 61 00 730 If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, for example with the repair above, use the Plus code labor operation 00 00 556 instead. The diagnosis and repair of vehicles “arriving” with failed control modules or stored faults which will cause them to fail during programming cannot be claimed under the defect code listed in this bulletin. Other Repairs If other eligible and covered work is performed “prior” to programming and coding the vehicle, claim this work with the applicable defect code and labor operations listed in KSD2.
