Introduction
Some 2016 – 2017 model year Tacoma vehicles may exhibit a howling or whistling noise from
the front lower control arms at speeds of about 25 – 45 mph. The noise may be more noticeable
when cross winds are present. Follow the procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY
This repair is covered under the Toyota Basic Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36
months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date.
Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in
this bulletin.

Repair Procedure
1. Verify there is a howling or whistling noise while driving at speeds of about 25 – 45 mph.
Is the noise present?

YES — Continue to step 2.

NO — This bulletin does NOT apply. Continue diagnosis using the applicable
Repair Manual.
2. Place painter’s tape (or equivalent) over the
three 15 mm holes of both of the lower
control arms, then drive the vehicle.


YES — This bulletin does NOT apply.
Continue diagnosis using the
applicable Repair Manual.

NO — Continue to step 3.

Apply Tape to ONLY These 3 (15 mm) Holes on
BOTH Left and Right Control Arms

3. Install the Hole Plugs in the three 15 mm
holes of each lower control arm by pressing
firmly, by hand, on the center of the plug to
ensure the plug is fully seated.

Do NOT use glue or lubrication
during installation.
Ensure NOT ALL holes are covered.
