Classification: EL18-033 Reference: Date: NTB18-076 November 6, 2018 2018 KICKS; REAR SONAR DOES NOT WORK WITH HEADLAMPS ON APPLIED VEHICLES: 2018 Kicks (P15) APPLIED SYSTEM: Dealer or Vehicle Processing Center (VPC) installed rear sonar IF YOU CONFIRM The rear sonar system does not work with the headlamps and/or parking lamps ON. NOTE: The rear sonar system works normally with the headlamps and parking lamps OFF. ACTION Reposition two (2) of the electrical wire terminals in the driver side rear combination lamp connector and inside harness connector of the rear sonar harness assembly. IMPORTANT: The purpose of ACTION (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire SERVICE PROCEDURE as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair. Nissan Bulletins are intended for use by qualified technicians, not 'do-it-yourselfers'. Qualified technicians are properly trained individuals who have the equipment, tools, safety instruction, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. NOTE: If you believe that a described condition may apply to a particular vehicle, DO NOT assume that it does. See your Nissan dealer to determine if this applies to your vehicle. 1/12 SERVICE PROCEDURE CAUTION: Handle interior trim carefully to avoid damage. Work with clean hands and clean tools to avoid dirt and stains. Position clean suitable covering in the vehicle where work is being performed. Perform repairs in a clean working area on a soft surface, such as a fender cover, cardboard, etc. IMPORTANT: Follow all cautions, warnings, and notes in the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) when working on or near a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), such as an air bag. 1. Turn the ignition ON. 2. Write down the audio settings. Presets 1 AM FM 1 FM 2 SAT 1 SAT 2 SAT 3 Bass Treble 2 3 Balance 4 Fade 5 6 Speed Sen. Vol. 3. Turn OFF the ignition. 4. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 5. Wait at least three (3) minutes before continuing. 2/12 NTB18-076 6. Disconnect the parcel shelf finisher straps from the back door, and then remove the parcel shelf finisher. Finisher Figure 1 7. Remove the two (2) driver side luggage side lower finisher clips with a suitable plastic trim tool. Figure 2 8. Unfasten the two (2) driver side luggage side upper finisher clips. Figure 3 3/12 NTB18-076 9. Remove the two (2) 10 mm bolts securing the driver side rear combination lamp (combination lamp). 10. Grab the combination lamp, and then carefully pull it off the vehicle body. The combination lamp is fastened to the vehicle body by the 2 bolts and 2 push pins. Figure 4 NOTE: The push pins are part of the combination lamp. Figure 5 11. Disconnect the combination lamp harness connector, and then remove the combination lamp. Figure 6 4/12 NTB18-076 NOTE: To keep the orientation of the combination lamp harness connector consistent, hold it with the lock at the top. 12. Remove the retainer by inserting a suitable pick in the notched hole and carefully prying out. Retainer Lock Tool Figure 7 13. Remove the terminals of the blue and black wires from the combination lamp harness connector (see Figures 10 and 11 for selecting the correct blue wire). Using a suitable pick, pry inward on the locking tabs, and then pull out the wires from the harness side of the connector. A flashlight may help see the tabs better. The right side locking tab in Figure 8 is shown in the unlocked position. NOTE: The color of the blue wire in Figure 9 is enhanced for easier viewing. Insert the black wire where the blue wire was positioned. A slight audible click is heard when the terminal locks in place. Tug on the wire to make sure the terminal is locked in. 15. Insert the blue wire where the black wire was positioned. A slight audible click is heard when the terminal locks in place. Tug on the wire to make sure the terminal is locked in. NOTE: The color of the blue wire in Figure 10 and Figure 11 is enhanced for easier viewing. Normally, it is the same shade of blue as the other blue wires. Locate the foam wrapped harness connector shown in Figure 13. This connector will be rewrapped and fastened in the same position during assembly. Remember its position. Area in front of combination lamp Luggage side lower finisher Figure 13 18. Using a suitable cutting tool, cut the “wire tie”, and then peel off the foam from the connector. NOTE: Figure 14 shows the connector with foam and “wire tie” removed. Connector Figure 14 7/12 NTB18-076 19. Disconnect the connector. NOTE: Perform repairs to the circled connector, not the one with the red “X” (see Figure 15). Remove both terminals of the blue and black wires from the connector (see Figures 21 and 22 for selecting the correct blue wire). Using a suitable pick, pry inward on the locking tabs, and then pull out the wires from the harness side of the connector. A flashlight may help see the tabs better. Insert the black wire where the blue wire was positioned. A slight audible click is heard when the terminal locks in place. Tug on the wire to make sure the terminal is locked in. 23. NG Blue wire Black wire OK Blue wire Black wire Lock opening Figure 21 Figure 22 24. Insert the retainer using a suitable pair of needle nose pliers. CAUTION: Make sure none of the pins are bent. Figure 23 10/12 NTB18-076 25. Reconnect the connector inside the vehicle, and the combination lamp harness connector. Make sure an audible click is heard when connecting both connectors. Install the combination lamp with the 2 push pins only at this time. CAUTION: Do not let the combination lamp hang by its connector. 26. IMPORTANT: Operate the rear sonar system, verify it works properly with the headlamps ON and OFF. 27. Reassemble the vehicle in reverse order of steps 6-11. Make sure to rewrap the connector inside the vehicle with foam and fasten it in the same location. Refer to PARTS INFORMATION for foam and a “wire tie”. Combination lamp bolts torque: 4.4 N•m (0.54 kg-m, 39 in lbs) 28. Reconnect the negative battery cable. 29. Reset/reinitialize systems as needed. Refer to the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for a list of systems needing reset/reinitialization.
